Trabonzspor v Liverpool
Liverpool arrived in Turkey holding a slender one nil lead and arrived at a stadium with an enormous noisy crowd.
The last time Liverpool were there some of the crowd celebrated their goal by firing pistols in to the air, luckily times had changed apart from a serious incident with one of the fans shining a laser in Pepe Reinas face. The referee announced that he would abandon the game if it continued.
Liverpool started badly and a Dirk Kuyt mistake gifted the Turks the first goal.
Kuyts agent had said that he was interested in going to inter Milan which Roy Hodgson had denied.
Liverpool had a poor first half and the Turks looked more likely to get the 2nd goal.
The driving rail made the pitch very slippery and Liverpool were struggling to get the important away goal.
They started much more lively in the second half and became more dominant.
Danny Pacheco came on and made a difference with his forward runs.
Joe Cole had been causing trouble to the Turkiish defence and fine attack saw a Pacheco strike that the goalie could not hold, and Kuyt placed it firmly in the net.
LFC supporters heaved a sigh of relief at full time as their team went through to the next round.
The icing on the cake was Dirk Kuyt announcing he was committed to staying at Liverpool.
