Liverpool 3 v 1 Newcastle
Newcastle came to Anfield with a history of fantastic games and seven defeats.
The most memorable being the 4/3 defeat under Kevin Keegan when they were 12 points clear at the top of the table.
With so many ex Newcastle players in the Liverpool team the Newcastle supporters did not know who to boo first.
Bellamy, Enrique, Carroll and Downing all got their share.
It was Craig Bellamy that hit the headlines with 2 magnificent goals, the first was a low volley that he drilled after Adams shot was deflected by Tiote.
The second was a 25 yard free kick that Bellamy hit beautifully past the wall.
Newcastle had got a consolation goal in the 25th minute when a cross bounced in off Agger.
The crowd got their new year present after half time when Steven Gerrard came on and immediately took charge, putting beautiful balls in to the box.
One superb ball came in for Andy Carroll which he failed to finish.
Carroll seems devoid of confidence and one commentator suggested that his New year resolution should be to visit Glen Johnson's barber.
Liverpool go to 5th in the table with a great performance
